Monica Mooney

Owner/Breeder

Welcome to Wild Highland Standard Poodles. I’m Monica — a lifelong animal lover, professional pet care provider, and passionate poodle breeder dedicated to raising healthy, well-loved puppies with thoughtful foundations and family-oriented temperaments.

Animals have always been at the center of my life. Growing up as the daughter of a dog groomer, I was surrounded by dogs from an early age. My sister and I spent our childhood helping care for animals after school through pet sitting, dog walking, grooming environments, and hands-on daily care. We always had dogs of our own, often including poodles, and those early experiences built the foundation for the life and work I have today.

Over the last 20+ years, I’ve worked in many different areas of animal care, including grooming, doggy daycare, pet care, breeding, training, and farm animal care. Through those experiences, I developed a deep appreciation not only for caring for animals physically, but for understanding them emotionally — their personalities, sensitivities, instincts, and individual needs.

At Wild Highland Standard Poodles, we are deeply committed to preserving and appreciating everything that makes the Standard Poodle such an incredible breed. Poodles are known for their intelligence, athleticism, versatility, loyalty, and deep emotional connection with their families. They are highly adaptable dogs capable of thriving in many different environments and lifestyles while still remaining deeply people-oriented companions.

Our puppies have gone on to become beloved family dogs, city companions, hiking and outdoor adventure partners, therapy and service dogs, active travel companions, and loyal cuddle partners at home. One of the things I love most about poodles is their ability to fit so naturally into the lives of the people who love them while still maintaining the intelligence, sensitivity, and spirit the breed is known for.

Living in rural Vermont, our dogs are raised close to nature with plenty of opportunities to experience the outdoors, fresh air, movement, and daily interaction as part of family life. We believe in raising puppies in a thoughtful, loving environment where they are well-socialized, exposed to everyday experiences, and genuinely known as individuals from the very beginning.

One of the most rewarding parts of what I do is helping connect families with the dog that feels meant for them. Watching those relationships grow and knowing a puppy becomes part of someone’s life story is something I never take lightly.

At Wild Highland Standard Poodles, every puppy is raised with love, honesty, and genuine care at our home and family environment. We are proud of the relationships we build not only with our dogs, but with the families who welcome them into their lives.

Thank you so much for visiting our website and supporting our program. I look forward to connecting with you and helping you find the right companion for your family.

“It’s hard to believe that Bowie (formerly known as Lark) is almost one year old! Our experience of adopting Bowie from WHSP last June was 100% positive. He is a total love-bug and such an important part of our family.”

“We got our standard poodle, wren, from Monica's birds of spring litter. I could not ask for a better puppy, she has the sweetest personality and is a very attached dog. She loves our cat and doesn't care that the cat hates her; and she thinks our guinea pigs are as fascinating as television. At just under a year, she is trained and is smart enough to teach herself to open zippers in order to get her treats faster. If you want a very loyal, well tempered companion, Wild Highland is the place to go. We'll be getting another from her soon.”

“We couldn't be happier with the pup we purchased from Wild Highland Standard Poodles. Our female poodle-now one year old—is sweet, gentle, and incredibly smart. Her intelligence and eagerness to please has made training a breeze, and her loving temperament has made her a great fit for our family….Our experience with Wild Highland Standard Poodles was wonderful from start to finish. Even now, I still reach out from time to time with questions, and Monica is always so helpful. She is clearly a responsible breeder who cares deeply for her dogs-their health, temperament, and overall well-being truly shine through. Communication has always been professional and easy, and she was also very flexible in meeting us. She even encouraged us to bring our goldendoodle to help pick the right puppy, which meant so much to our family.
Our sweet Maple girl has completely stolen our hearts. I've had many dogs over the years, but this experience has made me a poodle person for life!
Highly recommend Monica and her incredible pups!”

We couldn't be more happy getting Mochi from Monica. He came to us completely house broken, able to walk on a leash, and well socialized. He adjust to our house and family really quickly. Mochi is curious, cuddly, cute, and caring. He is a very playful dog with a great temperament. He loves meeting new people, kids, and other dogs. This dog will steal your heart. Whenever we take him out, we always get compliments from others saying "He's gorgeous," "He's beautiful,” "He's so soft,” "He is so sweet.” Monica has always been helpful answering questions. We know he's in good hands whenever we leave him with her for the week. We highly recommend anyone getting a standard poodle to go with Wild Highland Standard Poodles. We know he came from a good home and a great lineage.”

"Words cannot express how wonderful our boy Parsley is. He is the most amazing addition to our family. Monica is so helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. I look forward to working with her again.
